My A-level journey was a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with highs and lows, but ultimately one of self-discovery and growth. I had stumbled in my O-level exams, but I was determined to make a fresh start when I entered junior college. My school’s principal set the tone on my first day with her words, ‘this place is a place of hope,’ and I embraced that sentiment wholeheartedly.
I threw myself into my studies and even took on a number of part-time jobs to make ends meet, but I managed to maintain decent grades. I was also fortunate enough to find a passion in the school’s performing arts CCA, where I formed a temporary live band with a unique blend of Oriental and Western instruments. I even picked up some card games from my schoolmates, which became one of my favourite pastimes during that period. I also attended various camps and events organized by the school, which taught me valuable lessons about teamwork and helped me to bond with my classmates.

The best campfire ever among all the camps
One of the most impactful experiences during my Junior College life was attending the Qcamp by the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). This camp sparked my interest in physics and introduced me to the exciting world of blockchain technology. I met a leader at the camp who was passionate about blockchain and through our conversations, I learned about the potential of this technology to revolutionize various industries. This experience not only broadened my horizons but also helped me to see the potential of technology to change the world. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the Qcamp experience changed my life and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to attend.
I took a unique combination of subjects – Physics, Mathematics, Chinese Literature, and Economics.

Some of the notes I made when I was studying Physics
The compulsory subjects like General Paper and Project Work were always a struggle for me as English was not my strong point, but I learned that hard work pays off. I appreciate the teachers who have been a great help to me throughout my A-level journey.

The rose from one of my form teachers during valentine’s day!
My form teacher who taught me math, as well as two of my Chinese literature teachers, were incredibly kind and patient with me. They provided me with tons of help, both academically and personally, and played a major role in my good grades in math and Chinese literature. Taking Chinese Literature was a happy accident for me. I had never studied literature systematically before, but my head of department suggested I give it a try. To my surprise, I found myself enjoying it a lot and it ended up being one of the most life-changing decisions I made during my A-levels. Not only did it improve my reading and writing skills, but it also brought me a lot of comfort and enjoyment. Despite the fact that a few of my closest classmates transferred schools, they left a lasting impact on me and I will always be grateful for the laughter and memories we shared together.

What my form teacher replied to my appreciation message on the day I finished my Alevel papers
My A-level journey may not have been perfect, but it was one of the most meaningful and transformative experiences of my life.
